I've only recently learned the sad news about Justin. I worked with Justin at the DWP in central London - I was in the policy section and Justin was the statistics man. He was always, always helpful, even when we asked him to provide the most obscure figures. We also had a shared love of cricket which we would discuss from time to time, in-between work. I was an Essex man while Justin was passionate about Durham. I left the DWP in 2000 but I bumped into Justin, quite fortuitously, at The Oval a few years ago. It was still the same Justin, enthusiastic about cricket with a score-book in his hand. It was great to meet up with him again and, although he mentioned he hadn't been well, I didn't realise how serious it was. A sad loss.
